The Kyocera CS-2525E and macOS Sierra: ARGH!

I have just made the Kyocera CS-2525E work with macOS Sierra, and what a pain in the butt that turned out to be.

First, you should probably realize that the CS-2525E is, by all accounts, ancient. But if your company has one and you’re stuck trying to print to it using a Mac, then I hope these instructions help you.

First, install the printer drivers that come from Kyocera. At the time of this writing, they can be found on the Kyocera website. Note, however, that these drivers do not support the CS-2525E.

What these drivers do do (insert childish Beavis/Butthead reference here) is provide a current CUPS filter for the OS. The filter is located in /usr/libexec/cups/filter and is called kyofilter_C.

Now you need the PPD file for the CS-2525E. Fortunately, Kyocera provides them for you. Unfortunately, they provide them in a PowerPC-only installer application, so you’re hosed. Except that I happen to have a copy, and they can be redistributed! w00t!
